Session Overview

Value Proposition of a Smart Grid for End Users

Track: GridWise: Towards a Smart Electric Grid
Thursday May/24/2007
16:00 - 17:30

Why is the smart grid needed, what are the benefits for the various stakeholders involved with electricity and more importantly why is it valuable to the users of electricity? These are core and often difficult questions that are often asked of the smart grid vision.

This session, led by experts in business and economics, will outline the value proposition of the smart grid for the broad range of players involved, and specifically for the end users, be it commercial, industrial or residential end-users.

The home consumer has quite different value perspectives from the commercial energy consumer. These are often at odds with pure efficiency and economy decisions. We will walk through a scenario of consumer-driven energy management through a third party, and discuss where opportunities exist to improve efficiencies by meeting the consumer wants.
